AUNT MILLIE'S TO DONATE 2,400 LOAVES OF BREAD ON DECEMBER 2 TO LOUISVILLE'S DARE TO CARE

Press release from Aunt Mille's doing their part to help during the holidays. Drop them an email and say thanks.

Fort Wayne, Indiana: Aunt Millie’s will donate 2,400 loaves of Butter Top Wheat Bread to Dare to Care Food Bank of Louisville, Kentucky on December 2, 2009*. The bread will be delivered fresh to Dare to Care for distribution to those in need this holiday season.

Brian Riendeau, executive director of Dare to Care Food Bank thanks Aunt Millie's for the donation, saying “Dare to Care works every day to end hunger in our community. Generous donations from caring companies such as Aunt Millie’s makes our job easier. We thank them for helping us during the busy holiday season.”

Dare to Care Food Bank was founded in 1971, after the Louisville community was stunned to discover a nine year-old boy had died of starvation on Thanksgiving Day. The name Dare to Care became the rallying cry of people throughout the area as they joined together to attack the very real problem of hunger in many of their neighborhoods. Today, Dare to Care Food Bank distributes 12 million pounds of food in 13 counties each year.

Over 175,000 people in Kentucky and southern Indiana struggle daily to get the food they need to be healthy. Over 115,000 different people in the Louisville area received emergency food assistance last year, including 40,000 children. It is estimated by the US Government that 175,000 people in Dare to Care’s service area are at risk of hunger.

In all, Aunt Millie’s will donate 57,600 loaves of bread this holiday season – over 1,000 loaves per day – to foodbanks throughout the Midwest. The retail value of the donation is $7,656 in the Louisville area, and $183,744 total for the Midwest.

Aunt Millie’s Bakeries is a family-owned company headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana since 1901. The company produces Aunt Millie’s bread and bakery products and other brands, which are distributed throughout the Midwest.
