WEEKEND EVENTS AND INTERESTING UPDATES

It will be a busy weekend to be sure for candidates and their supporters but first this. After the MyViewMatters Radio Show went off air at 7 pm Thursday night Louisville News and Politics: MYVIEWMATTERS RADIO: VETERANS HOSPITAL EDITION, myself, partner Ed Martin, and 9th district Metro Council candidate Patrick Duerr went straight to Dixie Highway to see what this whole Tea Party social was about.

Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect but I never expected it to be standing room only. The Tea Party Social put together by Rachel Ford was indeed standing room only and a very lively crowd. Held at Ernesto's restaurant on Dixie Highway the place was packed. Good turnout and mostly great speakers though some still grate on my nerves. If this is a sign of things to come look out Louisville the SW will indeed be the turning point for the local elections as I predicted.

In the meantime here are some of the events going on through Sunday.

FRIDAY SANDRA MCLAUGHLIN: Judicial candidate Sandra McLaughlin has decided to do a fundraiser at Wick's Pizza on Dixie Highway sponsored by apparently Don Distler. The event runs from 6-10 Pm with free food and drinks until 8. (Edit to add: free food and drinks requires a $20 donation per person or $30 for a couple)

Additionally on Friday State House candidate for District 46 Brian Simpson will be attending the St Rita picnic located on Preston Highway across from Southern High School. If you want to meet Brian here is your chance. Brian is running against neanderthal Larry Clark and could use your support. Check him out.

SATURDAY: Saturday Independent candidate for State House District 35 Michael Lewis will be in attendance at St Rita picnic. Michael is taking on the formidable task of defeating Jim "where am I" Wayne. Wayne a favorite of Councilwoman MaDonna Flood, and her husband convicted felon John Flood of IPL fame, should have a race on his hands. Lewis has already brought National attention to Louisville by taking on the rights of independents versus Juliann Carroll on CNN. Check him out.

Once again, crossing a fine line IMO, Evangel is of course hosting a candidate forum on behalf of Frank Simon's American Family Association Saturday morning at 10AM. This time it is at the Billtown Rd location. You know where I stand on these events Louisville News and Politics: EVANGEL WORLD CENTER: ANOTHER FALSE PROPHET? but if you choose to attend it is at Evangel World Prayer Center, 6900 Billtown Rd, Louisville, KY

SUNDAY: There is to be a Memorial Benefit for the Johnson family on August 15 from 2:00pm - 7:00pm at the Pleasure Valley Lions Club located at 6000 Lions Arms Drive just off the corner of Terry Lane and Cane Run Rd.There will be food, games, beer, music, karaoke, raffles, silent auctions and more.

Doug Johnson died recently and his family needs help with funeral expenses and other things. His wife Ginny needs all the help we can give her. Please get involved in making this a huge success for the family. Come out and have a great time and help a friend in need.

R.S.V.P to Debbie Cole at (502)551-9977 if possible so she can get an idea of how many will be in attendance.

Until next time......
